The origins of UIN SUKA Health Center were initially known as the IAIN clinic, which began in the 1990s. After IAIN transformed into UIN (State Islamic University) based on Presidential Decree No. 50 of 2004, the IAIN clinic, which originally had only a few medical professionals and inadequate equipment, rapidly evolved into the UIN SUKA Health Center. This center now boasts comprehensive facilities and a team of medical professionals meeting competency standards.

The construction of the UIN SUKA Health Center building took place between 2005 and 2006. The building consists of two floors:

First Floor :

  • Front Office
  • Examination rooms
  • Pharmacy
  • Waiting area
  • Laboratory
  • Emergency Room (UGD)
  • Physiotherapy room

Second Floor :

  • Administrative offices
  • Meeting lobby
  • Examination rooms
  • Exercise room

In its development, the UIN SUKA Health Center collaborated with the UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA development team to enhance management concepts and acquire medical equipment. A workshop on healthcare management was conducted in 2006, recommending a health service model based on insurance and emphasizing improved access for both academic community members and the general public.

During its early days as a small clinic, UIN Suka Health Center was staffed by H. M Dahlan (a minister) and Ny. Sukepti (a nurse). In the 1980s, the IAIN clinic was served by Dr. Imam Rusdi (now a neurology specialist) and Lela Badriyah (a nurse). Services provided were basic, including weight measurement, blood pressure checks, and simple medications. Despite its modest beginnings, the IAIN clinic played a significant role, especially for employees and residents living in the IAIN housing complex. Notably, Laila Badriyah AKS, one of the staff members, resided within the IAIN complex, ensuring prompt healthcare assistance for the community.

As part of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta development project, the UIN SUKA Health Center received support for medical equipment and adequate building facilities in 2006-2007. A feasibility study recommended a combination of health insurance-based management and fee-for-service strategies, allowing the UIN SUKA Health Center to serve not only the academic community but also the broader public.
